Greenwood Elementary: A Hub of Engagement, Learning, and Community Connection
Greenwood Elementary is buzzing with excitement as we announce an impressive lineup of events designed to engage students, parents, and the broader community in a variety of educational and health-oriented activities. With a focus on enrichment, fun, and wellness, the upcoming events promise an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
Music Program Highlights
Our music department has been hard at work, preparing students for their upcoming spring performances. Kindergarten through second grade students are diligently preparing for their spring programs, which will showcase their musical growth. Meanwhile, third and fourth graders are immersing themselves in exciting musical exploration, learning to play the ukulele, ORFF mallet instruments, and expanding their vocal skills.
The fifth-grade students are working on an exceptional opportunity: Carnegie Hall's "Link Up" program. This program provides a unique and comprehensive experience where students learn to sing, play the recorder, and move to music. In March, our fifth-grade students will embark on an unforgettable trip to Tulsa, where they will perform in concert with the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra—an inaugural event for Greenwood Elementary!
Fit Family Fun Night: Engaging the Community in Health
Our third Family Engagement Night, the Fit Family Fun Night, is scheduled for February 20th from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. This special event is designed to bring families together while promoting physical activity and heart-healthy habits. The Fit Family Fun Night is a great opportunity for families to engage in fun and interactive activities, learn about the importance of cardiovascular health, and even take part in a CPR training session.
This year, we are thrilled to incorporate the American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge into the event. This challenge is a wonderful way for families to join forces, learn together, and help raise awareness about the importance of maintaining a healthy heart. The evening will feature various fun activities, including fitness challenges and health education, all with the goal of inspiring long-term wellness.
By participating in these activities, families not only connect with one another but also contribute to a greater cause, helping to support the American Heart Association's mission to promote heart health in our community.
Parent-Teacher Organization: A Vital Support System
Our Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) plays a crucial role in supporting Greenwood Elementary, our students, and staff. Each week, the PTO operates the Tiger Store, where students can purchase fun trinkets, all while raising money to support our school’s programs. The PTO also organizes special events to encourage school spirit, such as the popular "Pajamas and Donuts" day. Looking ahead to March, the PTO is hosting an exciting event: a GLOW Dance for the entire student body! This event promises to be a glowing success, bringing students together for a day of fun and celebration.
Beyond supporting students, the PTO also takes care of our hard-working staff by providing meals for various occasions, ensuring our teachers and staff feel appreciated and supported throughout the year.
Track Meets and Little Olympics
March 26th will mark a milestone for our fifth-grade students, as they will compete in their first track meet. This exciting event will allow our budding athletes to showcase their skills in a variety of track and field events, giving them an opportunity to represent Greenwood with pride and enthusiasm.
Later in the spring, our first through fourth-grade students will participate in the Little Olympics in May. This fun and energetic event is designed for our younger students, giving them a chance to compete in age-appropriate track and field events in a supportive and friendly atmosphere. The Little Olympics is sure to foster a spirit of teamwork and friendly competition, allowing students to shine and enjoy the thrill of physical achievement.
A Future Full of Possibilities
At Greenwood Elementary, we are committed to fostering an engaging, supportive, and inspiring environment for students, parents, and the entire community. With an exciting slate of events—ranging from music performances to fitness challenges and track meets—there is something for everyone to look forward to. We invite all families and community members to join us in making these events a success as we continue to build a strong, connected, and healthy school community.
