Tahlequah Athletics has had an outstanding start to the 2024-2025 school year for fall sports.
The football team is having a strong season and controls its own destiny as they head into week 8. Currently sitting fourth in the district with a 2-2 record, the Tigers face Del City this week and will close the regular season at home, hosting Tulsa Rogers on November 1st and Tulsa Hale on November 8th. This would mark the 11th consecutive season that the Tiger football team has qualified for the playoffs, a testament to the dedication of both the players and coaches.
The Lady Tigers softball team finished the season with a 17-17 record and made it to the state tournament for the 13th time in school history. After hosting regionals on October 9th and 10th and defeating Grove in the finals, the Lady Tigers fell to eventual state runner-up Piedmont in the first round, with a score of 10-3. All-District voting will take place this week, and we expect to have several athletes selected. With only one senior graduating, the Lady Tigers are poised to make a strong return atop the 5A-4 district next season. The team, which featured four freshmen, three sophomores, one junior, and one senior, is young but shows great potential. Additionally, our middle school fastpitch team finished their season with an impressive 19-2 record, indicating a bright future for the program.
The Lady Tigers and Tigers cross country teams are also having an exceptional year. The boys’ team recently won the Metro Lakes Cross Country meet in Tahlequah on October 6th, while the girls’ team secured 2nd place in their district meet. Both teams will compete in the regional meet in Owasso on October 26th, with the state meet scheduled for November 2nd.
We are thrilled to continue streaming athletic events on the Green Country Sports Network via YouTube. This service allows parents, fans, and community members to watch most of our events from home at no charge. To further support this effort, Tahlequah Athletics is seeking more advertisers for the website, as the department receives a portion of each ad sold. Additionally, we will be looking for more corporate sponsors in the coming months.
It has been a busy but successful year for Tahlequah Athletics. As we move into the winter season, both basketball and wrestling are preparing for their upcoming competitions.
The Athletic Department is also preparing for the 10th Annual Tahlequah Athletics Hall of Fame banquet, scheduled for February 15th. Last year’s event drew more than 450 guests. Nominations are due by December 1st. For more information or to nominate a past student-athlete, please contact Matt Cloud at the Tahlequah Athletic Office at 918-458-4154.
We encourage everyone to attend an upcoming event and continue supporting Tahlequah Athletics. Go Tigers!
Matt Cloud, Athletic Director
