For the 2024-25 school year Greenwood Elementary has 498 students.  Building relationships with our families is extremely important to us.  We began building relationships with our families with a Block Party for our first parent engagement night.  202 students which included 133 families were in attendance, it was a huge success.  Our second quarter parent involvement will be Camp Learn S’more.  We will provide a variety of camping themed literacy stations for the students as well as different ideas for parents to help their children become better readers.  We will also have booths set up from various community members as well.  The date for Camp Learn S’more is November 21 from 5:30-7:00.

Out of our 498 students, we serve over 300 in our Boys and Girls Program after school.  The Boys and Girls Club Program has been in full swing since the first day of school and off to a fantastic start.  The after-school program provides two hours of educational support and engaging enrichment activities, in addition to members receiving a hot supper meal. The first hour of Boys & Girls Club is designated as “Power Hour” or educational support. During this hour, teachers incorporate learning activities, tutoring, and help with homework completion.  The second hour includes a variety of engaging enrichment activities that range from outdoor games, art, and skill building activities. TRAIL has begun and our Robotics team is looking forward to a great year.

Physical Education at Greenwood Elementary has started the year off strong! Our students are not only working on their physical fitness, but teamwork, positivity, and how to be a champion. When it comes to P.E. class, all we really ask for is that they give their best effort. Our students have enjoyed this class so far, and they get to exercise without even knowing it.

Our Cross-Country team will have run in three races this year, two already under our belt. We have brought home 8 medals out of those two races and hope to bring home more in our last event on Wednesday, September 25th. Medals aren’t the important thing, it’s the effort given, believing in yourself, and finishing the race that you started. Believing and effort are two very important things these kids need, and if we don’t believe in them in the first place, who will? Positivity and encouragement

The Greenwood Elementary Music program is alive and well.  Mr. Allen is bringing his positive energy to our school and instilling the life-long love for music.  Our kids are enjoying learning and growing in every class.  They learn through exploring singing, dancing and playing all kids of musical instruments.  In our music classes, we try to take every opportunity to make connections to every content area within their school day.  They also learn the life skills that they will need to learn how to cooperate with one another and work hard to accomplish big goals.  Along with all of this, the 5th grade is working on their Halloween Program “Zombies”.  This “Chilling” program will be held in our Greenwood Cafeteria on Tuesday, October 29th @ 6 PM.  The 3rd grade is working on their program “America in the Heartland”.  This heartwarming program will be held on Thursday, November 7th @ 6 PM.  At Greenwood, we love learning through music, and we know that you will see the results in every student!
