Tahlequah Middle School has had a great start to the school year. TMS hosted a summer social event for students and families. They were able to pick up their schedules, show their parents the building, and meet all the TMS staff. In all, we had over 670 families show up for this event!
Tahlequah Middle School believes in fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for all students. We understand that each student has unique interests and talents. This is why we offer a wide range of clubs, teams, and organizations to ensure that every student has the opportunity to explore their passions, develop new skills, and connect with their peers and adults.
The first team to showcase is TMS Robotics. They are focused on building and designing cutting-edge robots while preparing for both national and international tournaments. We’re also excited to host our own competitions, providing a platform for teams to showcase their skills and innovation. It’s going to be a fantastic year of engineering challenges and collaborative events!
The Technology Student Association (TSA) is an organization dedicated to engaging students' interest in technology, engineering, and STEM fields. Through a variety of competitions, conferences, and hands-on projects, TSA helps members develop critical skills and gain real-world experience. The association also provides opportunities for leadership and teamwork, preparing students for future careers and academic pursuits.
Student Council is a group of elected representatives who serve our students, school, and community. They organize Red Ribbon Week, host a Christmas party for the special needs students from all three elementary schools, volunteer at the Tulsa Food Bank, and at the end of the school year Student Council hosts a carnival for all TMS students. The money we raise is donated to organizations such as Special Olympics and American Cancer Society.
Our After-School Program is off to a great start with an average of 125 students staying each day. We have a recovery time daily for students to complete missing work or receive tutoring. Students are participating in activities such as chess club, karaoke club, sports, crafts, gardening, martial arts, robotics, Minecraft club and more. We always welcome more students to participate in our After School Program—sign up forms are in our attendance office.
The Native American Heritage Club seeks to promote the spiritual, mental, physical, and social-emotional well-being of our Native American students. The club is a school-based organization that encourages our students to make deeper connections to their Native American Culture. They have had their first meeting and will be starting Lunch Bunch soon. The first competition, Cherokee Challenge Bowl, October 23rd in Greasy Oklahoma. Planned for this school year include competitions, art shows, and promoting Native American Heritage Month in November.
A new addition to TMS is our school newspaper class. Students are learning the basics of journalism, from writing articles to conducting interviews and designing the paper. We love to feature and highlight all school activities, and we like to share good news. We also work with local businesses and do a Local Business Spotlight. We are in our third year for the broadcasting class, our school’s news broadcast, Tiger News. This news segment is played each morning to TMS students. Broadcasting students do everything from reporting on school events to highlighting student achievements. This class is a great way for students to build confidence and learn real-world communication skills.
We want each student to find their place at TMS! Thank you, parents, for sharing your most precious commodity! Go Tigers!
