The staff and students of Cherokee Elementary are excited and working hard in the final quarter of the 2023-2024 school year.
Cherokee Elementary’ s Teacher of the Year is Mrs. Randi Roberts. Randi is a kindergarten teacher in our building and is completing her twelfth year at Cherokee. Randi works diligently to meet the needs of her students. We are truly fortunate to have such a wonderful teacher leading our students in the classroom. She works very hard to make sure all students are learning the required objectives daily and every student in her classroom family knows that they are loved. Randi also demonstrates the desired skills for respect, manners, self-discipline, and many other qualities for her students. Randi is a team player, she is an asset to our building, we are blessed to have her at Cherokee ES.
In April we started Interest Groups. We polled our staff and students to see what type of club/activities they were interested in teaching and participating in. We compiled a list of activities like gardening, cooking, monster trucks, origami and many more. Teachers chose a group that they wanted to lead, and students chose a group that they wanted to participate in. Our goal is to help students find new hobbies and introduce them to students and teachers that they may not have contact with during the day. We hope to help students find new things that they did not know they loved and become acquainted with new school family members that they can count on. Groups are Thursday mornings for 30minutes. This is a trial run, and our hope is each child will get to participate in three groups next year.
Spring is here, and that means State Testing for our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade begins soon. School wide, we have been working hard to prepare our students for this opportunity to showcase their knowledge. It is crucial for your child to be at school on time every day in order for them to truly benefit from the enriched lessons their teachers have prepared for them. Students will continue to learn new skills daily and begin to review skills that have been taught. Please encourage your child to talk about what they are learning at school and help them check their homework nightly. Parents, please remember a good night’s sleep, a healthy breakfast and positive encouragement will help ensure that your child is ready to showcase their knowledge on test day.
I would like to thank our PTO for the countless hours that have been spent planning events, raising funds and volunteering. Cherokee has had a highly successful fundraising year and our students and teachers have benefited greatly. PTO paid for field trips and transportation costs, classroom supplies and technology, playground equipment and the list goes on and on. The students and staff of Cherokee Elementary appreciate all of the hard work and dedication that the PTO has blessed us with this year.
As you can see, we have been very busy the second semester of school and we are looking forward to a completing another successful year. We are proud of our students and staff at Cherokee Elementary and will take every opportunity to show off their talents. Like us on Facebook and see more incredible things about Cherokee Elementary.
